Unexpected Turn of Events
Yesterday I found out that my girlfriend and running partner would no longer be able to race the LA Marathon with me.  Not only that, she is not allowed to run any considerable distances, doctor’s orders.  It made me sad to hear this, but I have become even more determined to train the best I can.  I plan to run harder, longer, and better, since I feel I am running for two.

Little upset with myself
I wanted to apply for this MSRIP for this coming summer.  Looking at the application, I read “All documents must be postmarked by February 17, 2012”.  Upon scrolling down to the part needed for my letters of recommendation it reads “The recommender should return the completed form to the UC Riverside Graduate Division by February 10, 2012” which of course is tomorrow....

Run run as fast as you can.
Life is catching up to me, and I can’t out run it this time.  Work, training, and school is not too much to handle most days.  But I hate when I sit and think about it.  For the last 4 years I have gone to school Monday-Friday, and worked Saturday-Sunday.  For a while I worked Wednesday, Friday-Sunday, then cut it down to Friday-Sunday. It is tiring at times to never get a break.  The breaks...

Roommate Chronicles Part 1: The Dudes' Abode
This is my first year living away from home.  It is my third year in college, but I live 30miles from campus.  It is a lot cheaper for me to commute but not necessarily easier.  So as with every new episode in one’s life comes new experiences and problems.  This is going to be just a way to see what is happening in my apartment as I deal with the transition from home living to sharing an...

Classes
The problem with upper-division classes is they have no flexibility in the schedule.  When that happens, you can’t take the classes you need and you have to rework your entire 4 year plan so you can still graduate on time.  Woohoo…

Double Day
Had an easy run this morning at the crack of dawn, only 30min.  Then went to the gym with the girlfriend and did a chest workout.  Just got back from round two at the gym, worked on the back.  I wish I could do double days at the gym everyday. Here’s to hoping I will be sore tomorrow!

I love the feeling
when you finish lifting and your arms/back/chest/etc, feels like a heater.

Irksome
Sitting in Electromagnetism today, the girl working in my group said to me “I saw you jogging the other day.”  All I could think was:  you saw me running.

Running Partner
Anyone who runs knows it is usually easier with a partner.  It gives you someone to talk to, someone to be miserable with, and even someone to playfully compete against Over the course of my running career, I have had a good handful of running partners and all of them have had one thing in common.  I admired something about that person.   The first running partner I had is now my roommate.  I...

Wednesday
Wednesday Night is Squat night.  Took it easy today with less weight since I have Yasso 800’s in the morning.  Squats, calf raises, dead lifts, squat jump pull ups, and stair sprints.  Not to mention the 45min (5.65mile) run and a 15 slow run with my friend.  It was a good day.

Speed
Today was a speed workout, 15min warm-up 10x 20 second stride with 1min recovery run in between, 15min cool down. It was a lot of fun.  After the marathon is over it is going to be time for some serious speed training.

Tonight's Run
Only did 30min so that I could get plenty of rest for the workout in the morning. It isn’t too strenuous but my legs have been tight all weekend.

Saturday long run
18miles, 14 at around 10:15 pace and the last four at 7:56 pace. It was hard and I am exhausted.  On a plus note I will be heading out to the desert bright and early tomorrow for a day of riding.  It is nice not having to work for once.

Gym Workout
Dumbbell curls: 15reps (Each arm) at 20lbs x3 Superset with overhead triceps 15reps at 20lbs A shoulder circuit type thing with a 25lb plate (12 reps with 4 lifts  for a total of 48 reps, 3 sets). Assisted pull-up/chin-up/dip circuit, 10 of each one time. Squat jump pull ups (a new thing I just tried).  You do squat jumps under a pull-up bar and every time you jump, you grab the bar and do a...

Today
Started with a 12 mile workout, 3 warm up, 6 at race pace (around 7:45), 3 cool down.  Then I only had one class from 7:30-8:30pm took a quiz (did well I think) and was back at the apartment by 8:20.  Went to the gym at nine, short walk-run on the track with a friend followed by arms, shoulder, back workout.  Then some racket ball.  That is what I call a successful day.  Now it is time to bust out...
